South Florida Wild Caught Fresh Fish

Though we’re so close to the ocean, it is difficult to find truly fresh fish in South Florida. Here are some sources. Slow Food’s guide to how to pick a fresh fish.

Listed from north to south.

South Florida Fish—Right Off the Boat

There are a few sports fishing marinas where you can buy fish fresh off boat, typically in the late afternoon after the boats return from charter fishing trips.

Fort Lauderdale: Lady Pamela II At the marina behind Pier 66. 2301 SE 17th Street, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316. 954.761.8045 ladypamela2.com

Haulover Park Marina Fish available from multiple sports fishing boats. 10800 Collins Avenue; Miami Beach, FL 33154.

Key Biscayne: L & H Sports Fishing After passing the Miami Seaquarium, you go over another bridge and the marina is immediately to your right. Call to reserve fresh catch. 4000 Crandon Boulevard; Miami, FL 33149. 305.361.9318 Facebook Yelp landhsportfishing.com

South Florida Fish—Stores Supplied By Their Own Boats

South Florida is fortunate to have some fish stores where fish is brought in by their boats.

Downtown Miami: Casablanca Fish Market On the north side of the Miami River. 404 NW North River Drive; Miami, FL 33128. 305.371.4107 Yelp casablancafishmarket.com

Downtown Miami: Garcia’s Fish Market On the north side of the Miami River. 398 NW North River Drive; Miami, FL 33128. 305.375.0765 Yelp garciasmiami.com
